Do you think a 17-year-old is mature enough to make a decision about their future profession? I’m a classic example of someone who followed the advice of significant adults when choosing a career and obtained their bachelor’s and master’s degrees with distinction in human resources. However, I never actually worked in that field. And as also frequently happens, while on maternity leave after having my first baby, I finally started doing what I really love – teaching English.
Before long, I had more students than time and a new challenge in front of me: how to do my job the best possible way, how to measure what I was doing and make sure I don’t harm those pure innocent creatures called children. That’s how I got three Teacher Toolkit (TKT) modules and started training my team for them as well, and we ended up as a Cambridge assessment preparation centre.
With time, we got students of all ages but my vision of the educational process hasn’t changed: each individual characteristic should be taken into consideration and each individual progress should be closely monitored. The knowledge I gained in the CELTA and DELTA Module 1s helped me develop the processes in my school that help every student get their best learning experience.
Since the war started in Ukraine, I’ve been living and working in London, but my school still works, mostly online, of course. Despite all challenges life puts before us, Ukrainians still endeavour to grow and prosper and English is a key for that door.
